Sighting in Marseille-en-Beauvaisis, January 19, 1979

Oise, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on January 19, 1979 in Marseille-en-Beauvaisis (Oise, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

At about 6:30 p.m., two motorists noticed an object in the sky that they could not identify. They saw two very bright white lights, along with a red and orange glow. The object moved toward the southeast, and they heard no sound. No other witness account could be gathered.

The investigation established that a twin-engine aircraft had been on training flights that day, between 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. The plane has two powerful headlights at the front, and it had made U-turns over the area in question. GEIPAN therefore concluded that the witnesses had seen an aircraft and classified the case as A, meaning identified.
