Sighting in Montoir-de-Bretagne, May 7, 2008

Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on May 7, 2008 in Montoir-de-Bretagne (Loire-Atlantique, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably the atmospheric re-entry of a space object (rocket stage, debris) (class B).

What happened

At about 1:30 a.m., two witnesses noticed a round, white object in the sky. They could not judge how high or how far away it was. The object moved quickly from east to west along a path that sloped slightly downward. No sound was heard as it passed.

Only one of the two witnesses submitted an account. According to the investigation, they most likely saw a meteorite entering the atmosphere. The case was classified B, meaning probably identified, with the conclusion that a luminous phenomenon crossed the sky from east to west, most likely an atmospheric re-entry.
