Sighting in Montrouge, July 21, 2009

Hauts-de-Seine, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on July 21, 2009 in Montrouge (Hauts-de-Seine, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

Shortly before one in the morning, a witness at home saw four red lights cross the sky from north to south. They heard no sound during the observation, which lasted about two minutes. No one else reported seeing the phenomenon, and there are no photos or video.

The information gathered pointed to a probable pass of Thai lanterns. The description fits this kind of object: red-orange lights, silent movement, low altitude and a sudden extinction. Sightings of this type have also become increasingly frequent. GEIPAN therefore classed the case as B, probably identified.
