Sighting in Montsalvy, August 27, 2012

Cantal, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on August 27, 2012 in Montsalvy (Cantal, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 10 p.m., a driver travelling with passengers noticed a moving white and green light in the sky. Only one account was submitted, and it was very brief: it described a green phenomenon moving very fast.

This description has some of the characteristics of a bolide, meaning a falling meteorite. GEIPAN asked the witness for further information, but the account remained too vague to confirm that hypothesis. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as C, because the data were insufficient and the testimony lacked substance.

Account rewritten by SkyUnknown from the investigation report published by GEIPAN (CNES). The original text and case documents are on the official record.
