Sighting in Morville-sur-Seille, September 11, 2015

Meurthe-et-Moselle, Grand Est, France

Sighting on September 11, 2015 in Morville-sur-Seille (Meurthe-et-Moselle, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At about 3 a.m., two people driving in a car noticed a white light in the sky and stopped. The luminous ball, at first stationary, eventually changed direction and moved away with a humming noise. One of the witnesses took three photos. Only one account was collected.

GEIPAN noted some strange features in the case, in particular the shift from a steady light to a movement accompanied by sound. No radar recording exists. A helicopter manoeuvring nearby was considered as a possible explanation, since its low altitude would have kept it off radar. Even so, this seemed surprising in open countryside at that hour, and the local gendarmerie knew of no such activity.

The testimony also contained inconsistencies. The witness did not reply to requests for details on where the phenomenon had been in the sky, nor to the request to obtain an account from the person who was with them in the vehicle. They also failed to respond to repeated requests for a meeting for an on-site investigation, which could have completed the account and perhaps explained the unusual elements. Because the witness did not respond, GEIPAN classified the case as C, insufficient data.
