Sighting in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, July 1965

Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

Sighting in July 1965 in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

The account reached the GEIPAN in August 2009 in a very short email, and concerns events from early July 1965. The exact day is not given, nor is the precise place: the witness only places the scene on an unidentified road between Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and Manosque.

At the time, around 7:00 or 7:30 pm, the witness was travelling by car in the Gorges du Verdon area. As the vehicle crossed a lavender field, the witness and their brother saw, from the back seat, what looked like a "big upturned plate" sitting in a field, with "children" coming out of it. The witness was 14 years old and the brother was 4. No further detail was provided and no other witness came forward.

The GEIPAN asked for additional information, but none was ever supplied. Without a precise date or location, the case is too thinly documented to be investigated and is classified C. The investigation only notes that the Moon rising in the south-east on 11 July might have caused a misidentification, though this would in no way explain the small beings described.
