Ardennes, Grand Est, France
Sighting on October 3, 1978 in Mouzon (Ardennes, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).
What happened
At around 2 a.m., the witness was riding a moped when a bright glow above a wood caught their attention. They then made out a cigar-shaped object, red-orange in color and surrounded by a vivid green halo. It hung motionless in the sky about 100 m away, and its brightness dazzled the witness.
The moped's engine then cut out. The object vanished abruptly, accompanied by a faint humming sound. The moped started working again, which allowed the frightened witness to get going and continue on their way.
Another person reported that craft of this kind had passed through the area before, but gave no further details. GEIPAN classified the case as D (unexplained): the investigation recorded the observation of a cigar-shaped object that had an effect on a vehicle.
