Sighting in Sedan, August 21, 2009

Ardennes, Grand Est, France

Sighting on August 21, 2009 in Sedan (Ardennes, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At 21:49 one evening, a witness saw an oval object in the sky. It had a powerful white searchlight and several small lights. The object stayed still at first, then moved away in a straight line. The witness heard no sound. The sighting lasted three minutes. The witness's spouse also saw the phenomenon and took photographs.

The witness supplied several of these photos to GEIPAN. The investigation found that they matched the observation poorly and had clearly been produced through computer image processing, so they were judged unusable.

That left only the account of the sighting, which was moderately strange because of the straight-line movement; a low-flying aircraft could possibly explain it. Given the problems with the photos, GEIPAN classified the case as C, because of a lack of reliable information.
