Sighting in Petit-Landau, December 12, 1980

Haut-Rhin, Grand Est, France

Sighting on December 12, 1980 in Petit-Landau (Haut-Rhin, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 5 a.m., a woman driving saw an orange light in her rearview mirror. About 300 m away in the forest, she made out an oval-shaped object giving off flashing lights that went from green to red and then blue. She stopped to watch it. The object measured roughly 5 m wide and 2 m high.

Shaken by what she had seen, the driver set off again and watched the object vanish at a crossroads.

No other testimony or information was gathered about this phenomenon. Because of the lack of data, the GEIPAN classified the case as C (insufficient data), recording only the observation of an oval-shaped object.
