What happened

At 8:30 p.m., three children aged 12, 9 and 8 saw an aluminium-coloured object near their home. It was rectangular, partly split down the middle along its height, and stood on two supports bent outwards, one on each side of its base. It measured about two metres high by one metre wide. One of the children threw a stone at it, then a dart from a toy. The object moved slowly forward and knocked the child over. Frightened, the child went home and to bed. Two sisters also saw the object and went to hide. Nobody saw it disappear. The two sisters also described a red light swaying just above the ground near their house.

The parents did not believe the children, but their schoolteacher reported the sighting to the gendarmerie, which drew up two reports. The captain did not question the children's credibility; they lived on an isolated farm, did not read newspapers and did not go to the cinema. In the direction from which the red light had appeared, a large ring of flattened grass lying clockwise was found, with four holes in it. These marks were not recognised as trampling by people or animals.

The GEIPAN learned of an investigation by a private ufologist, who met the witnesses in the 1980s. They confirmed to him that they had staged a prank whose consequences got out of hand. His report was presented in Lyon in 1992 and published in 1993. These statements appear reliable at first sight but remain to be verified, so the GEIPAN classified the case C, for lack of confirmed information.
