Sighting in Pulnoy, March 19, 2014

Meurthe-et-Moselle, Grand Est, France

Sighting on March 19, 2014 in Pulnoy (Meurthe-et-Moselle, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At about 10:15 pm, the witness was closing their shutters when they noticed several bright, cylinder-shaped objects hanging motionless in the sky. They went on to make other observations of the same kind on later occasions. A neighbour had also seen very bright lights in the sky, but to them the lights looked just like stars. Only one formal account was collected, however.

The on-site investigation made it very likely that the odd shapes the witness described were caused by their vision problems, namely cataracts and presbyopia. Since the sightings kept recurring, they were expected to stop after the witness's cataract operation, scheduled for August 2014. A questionnaire from a second witness, a male neighbour, was also expected to confirm or contradict this reading. Pending one or the other, GEIPAN classified the case as B: probably stars seen by a witness with impaired eyesight.
