Vosges, Grand Est, France

Sighting on January 28, 1980 in Raon-aux-Bois (Vosges, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At about 4:15 a.m., someone driving a car noticed a bright object to their right. It was a round, orange object hanging motionless some 40 metres above the ground and roughly 150 metres from the witness. It gave off a strong light aimed toward the sky, and it sat inside a larger, brighter circle.

The witness kept driving and felt that the object was following the car. They heard no noise and noticed no smell, but became frightened. Shortly afterwards the object vanished into the landscape.

No other witness came forward and the investigation gathered no further information. GEIPAN classified the case as C, meaning there was not enough data to reach a conclusion.
