Sighting in Remiremont, 1955

Vosges, Grand Est, France

Sighting in 1955 in Remiremont (Vosges, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

In January 2009, a witness emailed the GEIPAN to report three sightings of unidentified aerial phenomena. They could no longer remember the exact dates: the first two were said to date from the years 1955 to 1960, one in Remiremont and the other in the suburbs of Nancy, and the third from 1975, in Guadeloupe. For the first sighting, a moving luminous phenomenon, the GEIPAN used 1 January 1955 as a date, chosen arbitrarily.

The witness described a circular, luminous object about 50 metres across, seen on a Sunday evening around 5 or 6 p.m. It was 400 to 500 metres from the road and about 50 metres above the ground.

The GEIPAN asked for details about each sighting, but no completed questionnaire was ever sent back. Because of this lack of information, the case was classified C.
