Sighting in Rouffach, April 10, 2010

Haut-Rhin, Grand Est, France

Sighting on April 10, 2010 in Rouffach (Haut-Rhin, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

On a Saturday evening, between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m., several people noticed two bright red lights moving silently through the sky at low altitude. They followed a straight path running from north to south.

The investigation found that these sightings matched everything expected of Thai lanterns drifting past: the colour, the duration, and the way the lights moved with the wind. GEIPAN classified the case as B, meaning it was very probably a sighting of Thai lanterns.
