Sighting in Saint-André-de-Double, June 26, 2011

Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on June 26, 2011 in Saint-André-de-Double (Dordogne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Around midnight, a witness was at home when a strong white light passed straight over the house. It came from the north-west and quickly moved off toward the south-east. As it went overhead, the witness made out three white lights, two at the front and one at the back, forming a triangle. No sound was heard at any point during the sighting. Another account of the same phenomenon was collected. The same witness also reported a second, separate observation.

The investigation noted that some features suggest low-flying aircraft, while others do not fit, notably the silence and the lighting. GEIPAN asked civil aviation and the Armée de l'air about possible radar traces: only high-altitude flights were reported. However, radar does not cover low-altitude flights, and the Armée de l'air knows the area as one of its low-altitude exercise zones. Without precise information, GEIPAN classified the case "C" (insufficient data). It was a rapid, silent movement of lights.
