Sighting in Saint-Jean-de-Liversay, April 12, 2012

Charente-Maritime, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on April 12, 2012 in Saint-Jean-de-Liversay (Charente-Maritime, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

One evening at around 9:40 p.m., a witness indoors suddenly noticed a fairly strong red glow appearing behind the panes of a first-floor window. It stayed visible for several minutes. The light then changed color and intensity, grew dimmer and finally disappeared. No other witness account was collected.

The GEIPAN rated the case as having low to medium strangeness and the same level of consistency. The seemingly stationary point of light was a very bright reddish-orange that turned white as it faded. This is reminiscent of an aircraft seen head-on, but it cannot be stated with certainty because no air traffic data were available. With no other objective evidence, the GEIPAN classified the case as C, owing to insufficient information.
