Sighting in Sarcelles, July 4, 2009

Val-d'Oise, Île-de-France, France

Sighting on July 4, 2009 in Sarcelles (Val-d'Oise, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 1 a.m., on the night from Friday to Saturday, four people were looking at the sky and saw two large white lights move across it before quickly disappearing. Three smaller lights followed and headed off in different directions. One witness said these three lights formed a triangle in the sky. No sound was heard during the fifteen-minute observation.

The witness went to the gendarmerie, but the GEIPAN received only a single account, sent by email.

The lights as described (two white lights followed by three smaller ones, moving along changing paths and in silence) could point to flying lanterns as a possible explanation. However, the age of the sighting and the lack of information, despite the witness's goodwill, made further investigation impossible. The case was classified C, insufficient data.
