Sighting in Villers-Bocage, December 2, 1985

Somme, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting on December 2, 1985 in Villers-Bocage (Somme, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

In the evening, at around 10 p.m., several witnesses heard a loud, dull noise. They went outside and saw a flying craft carrying a set of lights: red lights at the front and rear of the object, and bright lights in the middle. The craft passed slowly over the housing estate, and both the object and its lights gradually faded from view.

The investigation considered the possibility that a "Transall"-type aircraft had passed over. That evening, at that time, a flight was scheduled on a route that took it over the municipality. The case was classified B, probably identified: a very noisy aircraft flying over the housing estate.
