Sighting in Vouécourt, August 2003

Haute-Marne, Grand Est, France

Sighting in August 2003 in Vouécourt (Haute-Marne, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

One evening in August 2003, around midnight, five people had gathered in the village square to look at the stars. The witness no longer remembers the exact day. While they were watching the sky and following shooting stars, a burst of light caught them off guard right above their heads: two rows of three very bright white spots shone for about half a second. The light was so strong that the scene was lit up as if in broad daylight. The spots then faded gradually and went out over roughly one second. The phenomenon made no noise.

No other witness account was collected. Because there was not enough information about the event, the GEIPAN classified it C (insufficient data); its conclusion is limited to the observation of white flashes.
