Sighting in Anglemont, August 3, 1976

Vosges, Grand Est, France

Sighting on August 3, 1976 in Anglemont (Vosges, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

Shortly before noon, a witness noticed an aircraft-like object moving slowly across the sky. It was cylindrical, aluminium in colour, and shone steadily the whole time. The sighting lasted half an hour, until the object vanished at the horizon.

During the neighbourhood inquiry, several people recognised the description as that of an advertising balloon for a tyre manufacturer, which had been seen several times that same day.

GEIPAN therefore concluded that the witness had observed an advertising balloon, and the case was classified A (identified).
