Sighting in Anthon, September 22, 2021

In the late afternoon, two people were in their garden when they heard a high-pitched whistling sound. They looked up and saw a dark mass cross their field of view very quickly. The sighting lasted about one second. Only one account of it was collected, and no photograph was taken.

The GEIPAN rated the case's consistency as medium: a single account, no photos, and a fleeting observation. The investigation noted that the shape described resembles certain drone models. Because the witnesses heard the whistling so clearly, the object was most likely close by, and the sound fits well with that of a drone. The extremely short duration made a detailed description impossible. The object did, however, fly along the edge of an area where model aircraft are permitted, although flying over private property is prohibited. The case was classified B: probable sighting of a drone.
