Sighting on September 29, 1987 in Arras (Pas-de-Calais, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably the atmospheric re-entry of a space object (rocket stage, debris) (class B).

What happened

Two witnesses saw a luminous phenomenon that lasted a few seconds. It was a bright white point whose apparent size was larger than that of a shooting star. It moved quickly across a very clear sky along a nearly straight path, then went out.

The GEIPAN classified the case as B (probably identified). Based on the witnesses' description, the object was most likely an atmospheric re-entry.
