Sighting on May 23, 2010 in Auberville-la-Renault (Seine-Maritime, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

At around 10:45 p.m., several people noticed an orange-colored luminous object in the sky. It first moved horizontally, then hovered in place for a while. After that it set off again, rising vertically, and eventually vanished at the horizon. The observation lasted five minutes, and no sound was heard during that time.

No other witness accounts of the phenomenon were collected. GEIPAN classified the case as B (probably identified): the witnesses most likely saw a Thai lantern drifting by.
