Sighting in Barjac, October 20, 1985

Ardèche, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on October 20, 1985 in Barjac (Ardèche, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

Two witnesses noticed a bright, round, motionless object in the sky early in the morning, which looked like a star. The observation lasted quite a while. One of the witnesses, who had binoculars, saw the object flatten out until it looked like a cigar. A point of light seemed to break away from one end and moved slowly, leaving shiny turbulence behind it. Two to three minutes later, the phenomenon had gone back to its original shape.

Around 7:40 a.m., clouds hid it for good. No other information could be gathered. GEIPAN classified the case as C, meaning insufficient data, and described it simply as a phenomenon moving in the sky.
