Sighting in Donzère, December 3, 1980

Drôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France

Sighting on December 3, 1980 in Donzère (Drôme, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

At around 11 p.m., a motorist was driving when they noticed a large circular object about 150 m ahead. It was a fluorescent green and hung motionless some 10 m above the road. The witness stopped to watch it. The object then began to move without making any sound and slowly approached the vehicle.

Frightened, the witness drove on and passed beneath the craft, which followed for roughly a kilometre. At a junction, the witness saw it head off at high speed in the opposite direction, and it quickly vanished. The whole sighting lasted three to four minutes.

During the investigation, another witness said they had seen a blue glow that same evening, but their account was very brief. Despite an appeal for witnesses and an investigation at the site, no further information was gathered. The case remained unexplained and was classified D by GEIPAN.
