Sighting in Barras, August 1, 1985
Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France
Sighting on August 1, 1985 in Barras (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
At around 11:15 p.m., a witness looking at the sky noticed a fixed, bright point of light with a slightly reddish tint, like a star. The point then moved vertically above the village, changing color and brightness as it did so. It took on a "delta" shape and moved off horizontally, going faster and faster.
A few seconds after the vertical movement, the witness heard a dull noise. As the object moved away, it became a simple point of light again. No other account of the phenomenon could be gathered.
The GEIPAN classified the case as C, meaning the data were insufficient to offer an explanation. The only description retained was that of a "delta"-shaped object.
