Sighting in Bergerac, August 17, 2014

Dordogne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on August 17, 2014 in Bergerac (Dordogne, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was the International Space Station (ISS) (class A).

What happened

At around 10:40 p.m., a witness noticed a white luminous phenomenon moving across the sky and found it puzzling. They watched it for about five minutes. Other people also saw the phenomenon, but only one account was collected. According to the witness, the object travelled from the northwest toward the east.

The witness's description clearly resembled the passage of a large satellite. A check on the Calsky website confirmed that the International Space Station (ISS) was visible at that time, in the direction the witness had given. GEIPAN therefore identified the sighting with certainty as the ISS and classed it A.
