Sighting in Casteljaloux, October 23, 1978

Lot-et-Garonne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on October 23, 1978 in Casteljaloux (Lot-et-Garonne, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

At around 8 p.m., a witness was outside with their dog, which seemed frightened. For several minutes, they watched a round, luminous object that twinkled and gave off an orange light. The object changed speed and direction several times, and the witness heard no particular noise. A fireball was then seen coming out of it, after which the object vanished suddenly.

The gendarmerie found no other witnesses who could corroborate what the sole witness had reported. GEIPAN concluded that the witness had observed the movement of a disc-shaped object, and classified the case as D: unexplained.
