Sighting in Bordeaux, April 5, 2010

Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on April 5, 2010 in Bordeaux (Gironde, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A witness was on their balcony in the early morning, at either 3:49 or 5:49 a.m. (the source does not settle which). They saw a very intense, very elongated white light that stayed motionless. Three yellow and red glowing balls then separated from it and moved off in different directions. The main light then vanished suddenly. Only one witness account was collected.

The look of the small lights, together with the fact that the sighting took place on a weekend night, could match Thai lanterns. The elongated, cigar-like shape, however, was harder to explain with the information available alone. Looking further into the possibilities, such as clouds for the cigar shape, the position in the sky, or consistency with the wind for balloons, would have required additional details. The witness never provided them despite several follow-up requests. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as C, for insufficient information.
