What happened

Starting on 5 January 1980 and over the following days, many witnesses noticed a very bright light in the sky in the late afternoon. The gendarmes who came to investigate on the spot saw it too. According to the observers, the shape of the light seemed to change, and so did its colours.

The investigation concluded that what they saw was most probably the planet Venus. GEIPAN classified the case as B (probably identified).
