Sighting in Brains, July 21, 2015

Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on July 21, 2015 in Brains (Loire-Atlantique, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably one or more satellites (class B).

What happened

At around 2 a.m., a witness who was looking at the stars saw a flash that grew brighter and then faded. Two minutes later, the same thing happened again. Only one account was collected, and there were no photos.

The case showed little strangeness and little consistency, since it rested on a single witness with no images. The investigation found that the phenomenon had all the typical features of a satellite flash: brightness that rose and then fell, a slow flash, and a fixed position in the sky. In addition, several uncontrolled satellites, known to produce powerful flashes, had passed through an area close to where the phenomenon was observed. However, the account lacked precision, so it was not possible to formally identify the satellite or satellites responsible. GEIPAN classified the case as B: a very probable misidentification of two satellite flashes.
