Sighting in Brive, January 11, 1979

Corrèze, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on January 11, 1979 in Brive (Corrèze, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty (class A).

What happened

One January morning, at about 6:45 a.m., a witness looking out of a window noticed an object that puzzled them. It was oval and moved silently above a road. Its underside carried six steady lights, red and green, while a yellow light at the centre shone strongly. The object travelled slowly from east to west.

The investigation concluded that the witness had seen a twin-engine airliner. That aircraft had landed at 6:42 a.m. at the nearby Brive aerodrome and taken off again at 6:59 a.m. The GEIPAN classified the case as A: an identified sighting of an airliner.
