Sighting in Bron, March 1, 2017
Rhône, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France
Sighting on March 1, 2017 in Bron (Rhône, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
At around 2 a.m., the witness noticed an unusual glow in the sky. They described a large, matte black, boomerang-shaped craft with white lights and flashing orange lights. It seemed to hang motionless and made no sound. Surprised and almost frightened, the witness went and sat down on the living room sofa. When they resumed watching, the object was gone.
GEIPAN received only one account, with little detail because the witness had been scared. Since the observation was not continued, nothing is known about any movement of the object or how it disappeared. The available details are consistent with a group of orange and white lanterns. A weeknight is less likely for a celebration, though a birthday is not always held at a weekend, and people who see lanterns often perceive a black shape joining the lights, a known effect of perception. Because no movement was noticed, it could not be compared with the wind direction, so the lantern hypothesis could not be strengthened. No civil or military air traffic record explains the sighting, although radar does not always pick up low-flying objects. The case is of limited strangeness and the information is insufficient, so GEIPAN classified it C, lack of information.
