Sighting in Bruges, September 21, 2008

Gironde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Sighting on September 21, 2008 in Bruges (Gironde, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably the International Space Station (ISS) (class B).

What happened

A witness reported several sightings of luminous spheres moving silently, the first on 21 September 2008 and a later one on 10 July 2009. They attached a set of photographs they had taken to their description. No gendarmerie report was drawn up. In the questionnaire they sent back to GEIPAN, the witness described the lights either as single points or as dimmer points arranged in pairs.

Given the number of sightings, GEIPAN assigned a field investigator (IPN) to concentrate on the first one, that of 21 September 2008.

The investigation concluded that the reported elements most likely reflected an observation of the International Space Station (ISS). The words "spheres" and "central core" were attributed to the use of optical devices such as binoculars. The case was classified B (probably identified).
