Sighting in Cahors, October 5, 1985

Lot, Occitanie, France

Sighting on October 5, 1985 in Cahors (Lot, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At around 7:20 p.m., a driver and their passengers noticed a luminous phenomenon that looked large to them. As it moved, they made out a triangular shape with flashing green and red lights. They heard no noise and estimated its speed at between 80 and 100 km/h.

The investigation established that training flights of 25 minutes each had taken place in the same area, using a Cessna 150. During these flights, the pilot had several times switched on the cockpit lighting and the landing light for the students on board. The pilot had seen nothing unusual. GEIPAN classed the case B: the witnesses probably saw this aircraft as it passed over the area.
