Meuse, Grand Est, France

Sighting on August 15, 2007 in Charny-sur-Meuse (Meuse, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

During the night, between 11:25 and 11:45 p.m., a witness noticed an unusual phenomenon in a clear sky. A dark metallic-grey object, surrounded by an orange halo and trailing streaks behind it, was crossing the sky. It moved from east to north-west for about six seconds, then vanished abruptly. The witness heard no sound.

The GEIPAN classified the case as B, probably identified: the description and the duration match what can be seen during an atmospheric re-entry, which was retained as the probable explanation.
