Sighting in Château-Thébaud, November 2010
Loire-Atlantique, Pays de la Loire, France
Sighting in November 2010 in Château-Thébaud (Loire-Atlantique, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a drone (class B).
What happened
The witness reported the sighting only later, to the gendarmerie in April 2011. It had taken place in early November 2010, on a day that could not be pinned down (a few possible dates), in the afternoon between 2:40 and 3:10 pm. The witness was walking their dog along a country road when an object they could not identify held their attention for about ten seconds.
The object was blue and flew about 2.5 m above the ground, at a steady speed and in a straight line. The witness described a cubic shape with a white circle on each side, the two circles being linked by beams of light. It crossed the road in front of them, then vanished abruptly near a tree. The witness found no trace of the object in the branches. No other witness came forward, and the gendarmerie, informed late, found no trace at the site.
The GEIPAN considered the hypothesis of a remotely piloted flying machine, such as a "quadcopter" type drone, since these devices are widely sold in all sizes, colours and price ranges. The blur around the body, described as a "cube with rounded corners", could match the rotation of the propellers, the witness's eyesight not allowing them to make out details or judge distances correctly. The strangeness level is low, and most of the characteristics described match known objects. The case was classified B: probable sighting of a remotely piloted object (toy, drone, etc.).
