Sighting in Chéreng, July 2003

Nord, Hauts-de-France, France

Sighting in July 2003 in Chéreng (Nord, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

A witness reported in August 2009 an observation dating from July 2003, without saying which day. Around 2 p.m., several people were in a garden when they saw twenty to thirty balls pass silently across a blue sky. The balls came from the northeast and headed southwest. The sighting lasted about ten minutes.

GEIPAN received only one account, given six years after the events and with no precise date, which made it unusable. What was described is not very strange and is consistent with a release of party balloons. Without a date, there was no way to test this hypothesis against the wind direction. The case is classified C, insufficient data, because of a lack of information.
