Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on July 10, 1979 in Cholet (Maine-et-Loire, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

At about 3 a.m., a witness looked out of their window and saw a yellow luminous mass, round or egg-shaped. It moved diagonally from north to east. The witness watched it for ten to fifteen minutes before it disappeared. No sound was heard during the sighting.

The investigation concluded that the witness had most likely seen a satellite of the Transit or Oscar type pass over. Skylab was ruled out, since it had not been visible in France since the end of June. GEIPAN classified the case as B, a probable satellite observation.
