Sighting in Chomérac, April 8, 2011
Ardèche, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France
Sighting on April 8, 2011 in Chomérac (Ardèche, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
At around 11:30 pm, a witness driving a car noticed a bright light in the sky. They stopped, opened the window and saw an enormous craft with dazzling white lights, hovering about 50 metres above a house. No sound could be heard. The lights then went out and the craft turned on itself to leave, and at that point the witness could see that it was triangular in shape.
Because the case was so strange, the GEIPAN wanted to carry out a field investigation, but one was only requested in 2014. The witness lived quite far from the site of the sighting and had little availability, so an interview could not be arranged. The witness also felt that more than three years had passed since the event, which seemed too long.
The strangeness of the case is high, but its consistency is too low to justify a D (unexplained) classification: there is a single, very brief account, with many imprecisions, written a year after the events. With no additional data, the GEIPAN classified the case as C.
