Sighting in Condom, July 23, 1976

Gers, Occitanie, France

Sighting on July 23, 1976 in Condom (Gers, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

On the night of 23 to 24 July 1976, around midnight, three people living in the same area saw a luminous phenomenon. It was a bright white light with a bluish tinge, moving at low altitude without any particular noise. It then disappeared toward the south-east.

The gendarmerie investigated, in particular questioning a witness who is a farmer. It found no trace or clue suggesting that any aircraft or object had passed over the area at low altitude. The vegetation in the zone where the main witness placed the light's path was undamaged, and nothing indicated the effect of a heat source or of displaced air.

The descriptions gathered remained insufficient. GEIPAN therefore classified the case C for lack of information: it is an observation of a luminous phenomenon in motion, and the available data do not allow any further conclusion.
