What happened

One evening at about 8:30 p.m., the Guéret gendarmerie group asked all of its brigades to look at the sky toward the east, where an unusual phenomenon had been reported. The officers saw very bright, twinkling points of light in a variety of colors. The same sightings were made again over several evenings in a row.

The investigation concluded that this was an astronomical phenomenon: the lights were stars whose twinkling was heightened by favorable weather conditions. The case was classed A, meaning identified.
