Sighting in Criquetot-l'Esneval, July 2, 1992

Seine-Maritime, Normandie, France

Sighting on July 2, 1992 in Criquetot-l'Esneval (Seine-Maritime, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around half past midnight, two 16-year-olds noticed a red object shaped like a rugby ball and surrounded by flames. It hung motionless for a few seconds, then dived very quickly toward the ground.

The next day, the two witnesses went to the spot where they thought the object had come down. There they found flattened wheat and marks on the ground.

The investigation attributed the flattened wheat and the marks to heavy storms, since several fields were in the same condition. It found no further information about the phenomenon itself, so the case was classified C, meaning the data were insufficient.
