Sighting in Croissanville, August 5, 1998

Calvados, Normandie, France

Sighting on August 5, 1998 in Croissanville (Calvados, France). GEIPAN considers the phenomenon probably identified (class B).

What happened

On 5 and 6 August 1998, at around 10:30 pm, a witness saw a white light crossing the sky. The investigation established that the MIR space station was perfectly visible on both evenings at the time of the sighting. An American experiment involving a pilotless aircraft remotely controlled by satellite could also have been visible, but on 22 August. Given the observations reported, GEIPAN adopted the hypothesis that the witness had seen passes of the MIR station, and the case was classified B (probably identified).
