Sighting in Dompierre-sur-Yon, May 2008
Vendée, Pays de la Loire, France
Sighting in May 2008 in Dompierre-sur-Yon (Vendée, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).
What happened
A witness emailed GEIPAN on 20 May 2008 to report something seen a few days earlier, though they could no longer remember the exact date. They had noticed a luminous ball in the sky. It was at first stationary, then moved off toward the north without making any sound.
GEIPAN considered the account too brief, particularly because the precise date was unknown, for any real investigation to be possible. It did note, however, that the description resembled sightings of Thai lanterns made in the region during the same period. The case was classed C, as the available data were insufficient to reach a conclusion.
