Sighting in Doué-la-Fontaine, August 15, 2015

Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire, France

Sighting on August 15, 2015 in Doué-la-Fontaine (Maine-et-Loire, France). According to GEIPAN, it was most probably a sky lantern (class B).

What happened

On a Saturday evening at around 10:30 p.m., two people saw seven points of light pass across a clear sky. The lights were round and orange-red, and they moved without making any sound. They first followed a straight path, then seemed to climb. The whole group crossed the sky within a few minutes. Photos were taken. The investigation was able to collect only one well-documented account.

GEIPAN compared this description with Thai lanterns: orange balls crossing the sky over a few minutes on a weekend night were probably released nearby at the end of a private party. The movement was seen going from north-northwest to south-southwest, which fits the north wind recorded at Angers that day. The photos match this type of object well. The case was classified B: probable sighting of Thai lanterns.
