Sighting in Épinal, July 10, 1976

Vosges, Grand Est, France

Sighting on July 10, 1976 in Épinal (Vosges, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At about 4:30 a.m., a motorist driving along the road noticed an unfamiliar craft just ahead, flying low above the road surface. The witness described it as four to five metres long and roughly one metre in diameter, bright red, with a black stripe running along its entire length. The top seemed to carry a sort of cabin with a flashing light.

The witness stopped to look at it. The craft then appeared to move backwards, as if coming toward them. Frightened, the witness immediately drove off.

The gendarmerie gathered no further information. GEIPAN classified the case as C, meaning there was not enough data, and its conclusion was limited to the observation of a flying craft following the road.
