Sighting in Épinonville, August 10, 2014

Meuse, Grand Est, France

Sighting on August 10, 2014 in Épinonville (Meuse, France). GEIPAN identified the phenomenon with certainty: it was the International Space Station (ISS) (class A).

What happened

The witness was out walking their dogs at 11:25 p.m. when they noticed two white points of light moving fast across the sky, one following the other. This was the only account collected. The description strongly suggested two satellites passing by, one of which looked large.

A check on Calsky confirmed that the International Space Station (ISS) was visible at that time. It was accompanied by the European space cargo vehicle ATV5, which was preparing to dock with the station on 12 August 2014. GEIPAN therefore classified the case as A: the sighting was the ISS and the ATV5 cargo vehicle, fully identified.
