Sighting in Espalion, January 19, 1976

Aveyron, Occitanie, France

Sighting on January 19, 1976 in Espalion (Aveyron, France). GEIPAN could not reach a conclusion for lack of sufficient information (class C).

What happened

At around 9:30 pm, a witness who was stepping out of their home saw a disc-shaped craft for about three minutes. They estimated it at 2.50 m across, and it was a phosphorescent orange color. It first seemed to be resting on a tarmac track along a ridge line. It then moved at low height through the valley and disappeared behind farm buildings. The witness heard no particular noise while it was moving.

The witness and their son went to the spot where the object seemed to have been and found no particular trace. Two other people said they had seen an unusual light on the road that same evening. All of the accounts remained very brief.

The GEIPAN concluded that the sighting was of a luminous circular object in motion. Because there was not enough information, the case was classified C.
