Sighting in Millau, March 16, 1999

Aveyron, Occitanie, France

Sighting on March 16, 1999 in Millau (Aveyron, France). After investigation, GEIPAN considers this phenomenon unexplained (class D).

What happened

At around 8 p.m., a witness saw two aerial phenomena pass by at great speed: a small orange ball and another ball that looked like a cluster of sparks or flames. Both followed straight paths, but one of the two seemed to dive into the valley before climbing back up. The phenomena made no sound at all, and the sighting lasted only a few seconds.

The GEIPAN investigation could not identify what had been seen. The path of one of the two phenomena argues against an atmospheric re-entry. The presence of military installations nearby did not provide an explanation either. The case remained unexplained and was classified D.
